Salt Pond is a saltwater pool located on Cape Cod, in Eastham, Massachusetts. During tourist season, this is a heavily-visited area, conveniently located near from the Salt Pond Visitor Center. But in spring and late autumn, you may have the place to yourself. The pond faces out to the open Atlantic Ocean and can be a wonderful location for both sunrise and sunset photography. A few days ago, I chose to explore it's potential for night photography. This image was made late evening on a moonless night as the Milky Way rose in the southeast. I was alone on the pond, except for the curious seal that came up for air near my position at the edge of the pond. Our encounter was startling and brief.
